Healthy Weight Week

Healthy Weight Week kicks off our third week in January! Healthy weight week has been observed since 1994. The observance aims to "reinforce healthy eating as a way of life, rather than diet to lose weight." Instead of focusing on fad diets that tend to be ineffective or deliver results that may not last, Healthy Weight Week advocates for our communities to create sustainable healthy habits.

According to the CDC, healthy eating, physical activity, optimal sleep, and stress reduction are key factors in reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. It is important to know that maintaining a healthy weight does not suggest weight loss. Of the 23 conditions approved for MMJ use in Pennsylvania, many patients have successfully treated weight-related manifestations, such as cachexia in cancer and HIV / AIDS, appetite loss in ALS, and slowed gastric motility with Crohn's and IBD through healthy eating and lifestyle changes.

Since the endocannabinoid system may regulate appetite by stimulating CB1 receptors, let's explore some plant-based cannabinoids.

  • THCA, commonly found in dry concentrates, dry leaf, and terpene syringes; an inactive cannabinoid potentially beneficial for appetite stimulation.

  • When choosing other formulations, the combination of THC + myrcene and Delta-8 + myrcene as THC acts at CB1 receptors in the brain to stimulate appetite and digestive behaviors.

  • THCV + humulene may potentially suppress appetite; this is because THCV seems to work by blocking action at CB1 receptors sites.

  • Products high in the terpene, beta-caryophyllene, may benefit appetite stimulation as it has been shown to stimulate CB1 receptors and have anti-inflammatory properties.

Join us in various healthy activities on our social platforms by sharing your life-long tips on healthy weight as we kick off the week. Look for our team working out in our Maitri Patient Parking Garage 5869 Centre Ave, where we hope to incorporate activities that can be enjoyed for a lifetime!
